This aired on Halloween night in 2004. My wife went into labor that evening. Our family watched the entire thing while sitting in the waiting room waiting for my daughter to be born. A friend of mine brought two sacks, 40 in total, of soft tacos from Taco Bell. It was a pretty cool night.
My brother saw this special and noted the bit about Audition. Then he visited my apartment when I wasn't there, and found out I owned it. He swiped it and then proceeded to show it to all our mutual family and friends. It did not go over well, but he loved blaming me for that. What a damn traitor.
Thank you for sharing this story, Jeff! I love hearing about a person's journey through film. Especially horror since it's one of my favorite genres, too. I miss the days when we had great specials like this. I used to watch horror award ceremonies that they'd air in the late 80s/early 90s.
I'm happy to hear that Shudder attempted to bring back this type of special. But it's unfortunate that it's not on the level of AMC's program.
