Interstellar (along with Fury Road) are the two example discs I show off anytime someone visits. Both are great demos of the color, resolution, and the sound of 4k.

Outstanding recommendations for a 4K starter list. Well done, Jeff. As a fellow Jaws fanatic (also my all-time favorite), I’ve seen it in almost every format imaginable. At this point I know every beat and every scare so well it’s hard for it to feel “new” on a rewatch. But the 4DX/3D combo I saw last September for the 50th anniversary was so perfectly executed, it honestly felt like seeing it for the first time. If they ever bring that presentation back, don’t miss it.

Wizard of Oz is the best "upgrade from any prior home media format to 4K" disc I've seen. I have over 100 4K discs and this is the one with the biggest "wow" factor, compared to previous formats. Among contemporary films, Skyfall is my #1 demo. Closely followed by Blade Runner 2049. (Not coincidentally, those were both shot by Roger Deakins.)

I'd take both Lawrence of Arabia and 2001 off the list, because I believe they should only be viewed on an actual cinema screen. Preferably in 70 mm. :-)

I’ve started my own 4k collection. I have both Bladerunners and I’m starting the Dune collection. Thanks for the recommendations.

I liked Jordan Peele's Nope fine in the theater, but it was the first 4K I ever watched when I got setup for 4K and I had never seen a movie look so good at home. I think I would have liked it a lot more upon repeat viewings anyway, but the presentation was also a big part of elevating my estimation of the film!

Honorable mention: the second 4K I ever watched, the Arrow release of Robocop.

I watched Wizard of Oz first, just to see Dorothy enter that new colourful world.

Great list. I own 8 of these! Haven't watched Red Shoes before, and not big on blind buying. Not a fan of Nolan in general, I don't have any of his movies in my collection outside Dark Knight Trilogy and a dvd of Inception, digital copy of Prestige.

Some more to add - Alien, Dark City, lots of Westerns, Fury Road, Twister, Bridge over the River Kwai

Great list. I have all but Glory and Red Shoes.

I have a few of these on Bluray but I'll take your advice and will be upgrading to 4K

I have six of them so I'm feeling pretty good about myself!

I'd also recommend The Searchers and The Sound Of Music. The restorations of both of these is phenomenal and the quality makes them appear if they were shot yesterday.
