The Best 4K Blu-rays of 2025 (So Far…)
Looking for the best 4K Blu-rays of 2025? These 10 releases deliver on picture quality, packaging, and collector appeal.
The first half of 2025 has been incredible for 4K collectors. We’ve seen long-awaited titles finally make their way to the format, boutique labels delivering next-level packaging, and a ton of surprises that show just how strong physical media still is. When I put this list together, I wasn’t just looking at the transfer or the audio quality. I considered the movie itself, the importance of the release, the packaging, and its overall impact on collectors. Some of these titles were stuck on DVD for decades before this year. Others are just plain fun additions that deserve a spot on any shelf.
Here are my 10 favorite 4K Blu-ray releases of 2025 so far.

1. Tombstone (Disney/Sony Steelbook)
Why it made the list: Tombstone isn’t just a great movie. This release also marks a major shift for Disney, with Sony now handling their physical media.
Tombstone is one of the first steelbooks we’ve seen from this Disney-Sony partnership, and it’s an instant standout. The artwork is beautiful, the transfer is excellent, and it’s great to see Disney finally dive into its catalog again. What keeps this one talked about is how quickly it sold out. These steelbooks were so limited that collectors were paying triple the price on eBay to secure a copy. It’s a great release but also proof that Disney and Sony need to get better at stocking these titles.
You can save this to your shopping list, but they are still out of stock as of July 2025.
2. Panic Room (Sony/Columbia Steelbook)
Why it made the list: A David Fincher film that fans have been begging for finally gets its 4K debut.
Panic Room had been stuck on SuperBit DVD for over 20 years with no Blu-ray release at all. This year, we finally got a 4K upgrade, and it’s worth the wait. Fincher is one of my all-time favorite directors, so this one means a lot to me. The movie is intentionally dark and grimy, but this transfer is as good as it’s ever looked. Just getting Panic Room in 4K feels like a huge win for physical media collectors.
Unfortunately, Sony seems to have issues with keeping stock, as this one is also hard to find as of July 2025, but you can save it to your shopping list here.
3. The Fall (Umbrella Entertainment Limited Box Set)
Why it made the list: A stunning, hard-to-find movie gets an equally stunning collector’s edition.
The Fall is one of the most visually unique films I’ve ever seen, but it’s been nearly impossible to watch for years. Umbrella’s limited box set changes that with a brand-new 4K remaster and some of the best packaging of the year. You get art cards, a massive behind-the-scenes booklet, and a region-free disc that works anywhere. It’s limited to just 5,000 copies, which makes it feel like an event release - exactly what this movie deserves.

4. Prophecy (Kino Lorber)
Why it made the list: An underrated 70s eco-horror gem that finally gets the premium 4K treatment.
Kino Lorber has had a great year, but Prophecy stands out. It’s a monster movie with an environmental message that was way ahead of its time. I love that it’s set in Maine, which makes it feel personal since I spend a lot of time there. The new 4K scan with HDR and Dolby Vision is top-notch, and the original poster art on the cover is perfect. With all the other great comedies Kino released this year (Uncle Buck, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison) and so many other catalog classics which speak right to me and my tastes, this is still my favorite movie of the bunch.

5. Dark City (Arrow Video Limited Edition)
Why it made the list: A cult sci-fi classic gets a reference-quality release from Arrow.
Dark City has always been a personal favorite, but it’s often overlooked because The Matrix came out so soon after. Arrow’s new 4K restoration is beautiful, and the package includes both the theatrical and director’s cuts along with a mountain of extras. I also like Arrow’s new slipcover style, which keeps all the info visible without sacrificing the premium look. This is easily one of Arrow’s best releases of the year.
Order from Amazon or from Barnes & Noble
6. Sean Connery James Bond Collection (SDS/MGM)
Why it made the list: Six of Connery’s most iconic Bond films finally land on 4K in one clean, collector-friendly set.
This set includes Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, and Diamonds Are Forever. They’ve all been restored and look fantastic in 4K. I’ve been waiting for these movies to get proper upgrades for years, so this was a huge win. The packaging is simple but effective, and I’m hoping this means we’ll see the rest of the Bond catalog - Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, all of it - in the same format soon.

7. Dirty Harry (Warner Bros. Steelbook)
Why it made the list: A true 70s classic with one of the sharpest 4K transfers of the year.
This was my first time watching Dirty Harry and experiencing it in 4K made it even better. The steelbook artwork is miles better than the standard edition, and the movie itself holds up as one of the best cat-and-mouse thrillers of its time. Warner also released The Outlaw Josey Wales and Pale Rider this year, but Dirty Harry is the standout. The audio and visual experience alone make it worth every penny.

8. Jason Goes to Hell (Arrow Video)
Why it made the list: Arrow breathes new life into a later Friday the 13th entry with an extras-packed 4K release.
The Final Chapter is still my favorite Friday the 13th sequel (and one of the best slashers ever made) but Jason Goes to Hell is easily the most fun of the later sequels. Arrow included both the theatrical and unrated cuts, along with a fresh Dolby Vision transfer, commentaries, interviews, and more. With the rights to the franchise so scattered, this is probably the best version we will ever get, and I’m glad Arrow delivered.

9. Sorcerer (Criterion Collection)
Why it made the list: Criterion’s biggest 4K release in years (in my opinion) and one of Friedkin’s best films.
Sorcerer is an intense, masterfully directed movie and Criterion gave it the upgrade it deserves. The 4K transfer with Dolby Vision looks fantastic, and the extras are stacked with interviews and a full Friedkin documentary. The digibook packaging feels premium, and this disc has been flying off shelves everywhere. It’s easily one of Criterion’s best releases in recent memory, giving new life to an under appreciated classic and making it look as good as it ever has.

10. Dirty Work (Vinegar Syndrome)
Why it made the list: A forgotten 90s comedy gets rescued and restored with the unrated “dirtier cut.”
I had never seen Dirty Work before this release, but it quickly became one of my favorite discoveries of the year. Norm Macdonald, Artie Lange, Don Rickles, and Chevy Chase all in one movie, directed by Bob Saget - it’s as fun as it sounds. Vinegar Syndrome tracked down the original unrated footage (some from VHS masters) and seamlessly restored it into the film. The slipcover artwork is wild, the extras are great, and it’s the kind of unexpected release that shows how good 2025 has been for 4K collectors.
The second half of 2025 is shaping up to be incredible for 4K Blu-ray collectors as well, with titles like Nightmare on Elm Street and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) on the way. There are also cult hits like In The Mouth of Madness, Prince of Darkness, Xanadu, This is Spinal Tap, and But I’m A Cheerleader also slated for 4K. This has already been one of the strongest years I’ve seen for 4K releases, and I’m curious to see how many of these picks hold their spot when I look back at the end of 2025.

Good list, but I've just watched Barry Lyndon in 4K in the Criterion collection and it definitely deserves an honourable mention. Kingdom Of Heaven as well. Totally agree with Tombstone. But for me Criterion and Arrow are knocking it outta the park with their 2025 releases.
Hi Jeff, Surprised The Outlaw Josey Wales 4K Steelbook was not. Included?
