Top 5 Most Anticipated Horror Movies of 2025
Here are the top 5 most anticipated horror movies of 2025 that every horror fan should be looking forward to.
Horror fans, 2025 is looking stacked! From terrifying sequels to off-the-wall original concepts, there’s a lot to get excited about. Here are my top five most anticipated horror movies of the year. Get your calendars ready, because these are going to be epic.
1. They Follow
Let’s be real, It Follows (2014) was a masterpiece. That movie had me side-eyeing everyone who walked behind me for weeks. Now, They Follow is finally happening, and I am beyond hyped. The first film’s creepy atmosphere, insane tension, and that iconic synth soundtrack by Disasterpeace? Perfection. The title of this sequel already has my brain spinning. Are there multiple followers this time? If so, that’s a hard pass for my sleep schedule.
David Robert Mitchell is back to direct, and he’s promised that this movie will stay true to the original vibe while taking the story to wild new places. If you loved the inventive scares of Smile or how its sequel raised the stakes, you’re going to eat this up. I’m also dying to see how the curse has evolved over time. Are more people affected? Have the rules changed? Late 2025 can’t come soon enough, and I’ll be counting down the days until I can see what fresh horrors this sequel has in store.
2. Hell of a Summer
Slasher fans, this one’s for us. Hell of a Summer is coming, and it looks like an absolute blast. Directed by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) in his first feature film, this movie is giving me serious Bodies Bodies Bodies and Fear Street vibes. The trailer? Hilarious and bloody in all the best ways. I’m already sold.
There’s not a ton of info about the plot yet, but based on the teaser, this is going to be a chaotic, sun-soaked nightmare full of twists and plenty of gore. NEON is handling distribution, which is always a good sign, and the movie is set to drop on April 18, 2025. A summer slasher hitting right before actual summer? Genius. I’ll be the one cheering every kill in the theater. As a huge fan of meta-horror, I’m expecting some sharp commentary on the genre along with all the blood-soaked fun. Let’s hope Finn Wolfhard knocks it out of the park in his directorial debut.
3. The Monkey
Stephen King fans, assemble. The Monkey is about to bring one of his most bizarre short stories to life, and I am here for it. A cursed toy monkey that bangs its cymbals every time someone’s about to die? Yes, please. Directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter), this movie has all the ingredients for something truly twisted.
What I love about this is that Perkins is apparently going to lean into dark comedy, which feels perfect for this story. Can you imagine sitting in a packed theater, everyone laughing and cringing as the monkey clangs its way through the movie? Perkins is known for his eerie, atmospheric style, but I’m excited to see him stretch his legs and bring some dark humor into the mix. Stephen King’s short stories are often his best work, and this one has such a bonkers premise that it feels like it was made to be experienced with a crowd. NEON is distributing, and I trust them to deliver something unforgettable. It’s hitting theaters on February 21, 2025, so mark your calendars for some cursed monkey business.
4. 28 Years Later
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland back in the 28 Days Later universe? Yes. Just yes. 28 Years Later looks like it’s going to bring all the chaos, fast zombies, and gut-punch storytelling we love from this franchise. The trailer is already giving me chills, especially with that haunting use of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Boots.” Whoever edited that trailer deserves a raise.
I’m a little nervous about this being the start of a new trilogy. I really want this movie to feel complete on its own and not like one big setup for the next two. But with Boyle directing and Garland writing, I’m optimistic. Plus, the whole thing was shot on an iPhone, which gives it a gritty, raw vibe that’s perfect for this series. I’m hoping for intense action, breathtaking visuals, and, of course, plenty of terrifying, fast-moving zombies. June 20, 2025, can’t come fast enough. Let’s hope this one delivers big.
5. Companion
Finally, we’ve got Companion, and honestly, I’m trying not to overhype myself, but this movie looks incredible. The trailer is super cryptic, which I love, because going in blind makes the scares hit harder. Sophie Thatcher (Yellowjackets) and Jack Quaid (The Boys) are starring, which is already a win in my book.
What makes this even more exciting is the team behind it. Drew Hancock is directing, and Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is producing. If you’ve seen Barbarian, you know that Cregger has a talent for creating insane, unpredictable horror. With Hancock mostly known for comedies, I’m curious to see how he blends humor and horror. I’m betting it’ll have some laugh-out-loud moments alongside the scares. This one drops on January 31, 2025, so start the year off right with what’s bound to be a wild ride. If the teaser is any indication, this is going to be one of those movies that has everyone talking.
There are so many others that I cannot wait for as well, including the new Final Destination movie, a new I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, Opus with Ayo Edibiri and John Malkovich in a crazy cult, The Rule of Jenny Pen with John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush facing off in a retirement home - there is so much great stuff coming and I am sure there is even more that has yet to be announced!
So clearly, 2025 is shaping up to be another amazing year for horror. Whether you’re into creepy sequels, slashers with a sense of humor, or totally out-there concepts, there’s something for everyone. What are you most excited for? Let me know, and let’s geek out over horror together!
I've never seen a Conjuring movie. I'm contemplating starting with Last Rites this fall and working my way backwards, just for kicks.
